You're standing at the Bochnia Salt Mine not far from Kraków. This is one of the oldest salt mines in the world. Salt was discovered here in the twelfth or thirteenth century, and by 1248 the mine was up and running. It kept producing salt until 1990. Right under your feet lies a whole underground town.
