You're standing at Reichsburg Cochem, perched on a cone-shaped hill about a hundred metres above the town. Take a look down at the Moselle. From up here, nobody on the river could slip past unnoticed in the Middle Ages. That was the whole point, because this was a toll castle. If you wanted to sail by, you paid.
