Dara in Artuklu

You're standing at Dara, on the site of an old East Roman fortress city. Today the little village of Dara sits here, in Turkey's Mardin Province. But some fifteen hundred years ago, this was one of the most important strongholds on the border with the Persian Empire. That border was only about five kilometres away.
