You're standing in front of the Palace of Culture in Iași. With its turrets, battlements and pointed windows, it looks like a fairy-tale castle straight out of the Middle Ages. But it's much younger than that. It went up between 1906 and 1925, in a flamboyant Neo-Gothic style, designed by the Romanian architect Ion Berindei.
