L-shaped palace at Gla in Municipality of Orchomenos

You're standing at Gla, a huge Mycenaean fortress in Boeotia. Have a look around. The flat land below was once Lake Kopais, the largest lake in southern Greece. This limestone hill jutted out into it, or maybe even formed an island. It rises about thirty-eight metres above its surroundings.
