You're standing on Perperikon, an ancient Thracian sacred city on a rocky hill 470 metres high, in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains. You're about 15 kilometres northeast of Kardzhali. At the foot of the hill lies the village of Gorna Krepost, and nearby flows the Perpereshka, a river that carries gold. Perperikon is the largest megalithic site in the Balkans.
