You're standing at Karfi, high in the Dikti Mountains of eastern Crete, about eleven hundred metres above the sea. Take a look at that striking knob of limestone on the summit. Locals call it 'karfi', the nail. From the north you can really see why. What people called this place in ancient times, nobody knows.
