You're standing at Spodek, one of the best-known buildings in Katowice. Take a good look at the shape. Spodek is Polish for saucer, and the word also means flying saucer. With that round, sloping roofline, it really does look as if a UFO has touched down in the middle of the city. Katowice even used the silhouette as an unofficial logo on posters promoting its redevelopment.
