You're standing at the Château d'Amboise, high on a rock above the Loire. Look at those huge round towers. They're the horsemen's towers, the Tour des Minimes and the Tour Heurtault. Instead of steps they have a sloping ramp, so riders and even carriages could get up to the terrace. And that terrace is forty metres higher up.
