You're standing on the Magdalena Peninsula in Santander, in front of the Palacio de la Magdalena. The palace sits on the highest point of the peninsula, right where the bay opens to the sea. That's no coincidence. This used to be the site of the Fort of San Salvador de Hano, which guarded the entrance to the bay.
