You're standing at Crathes Castle, near Banchory in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. You say it 'KRATH-iss'. Take a look at the walls. They aren't bare stone but covered in a rough coat of render, what the Scots call harling. This sixteenth-century tower house was built by the Burnetts of Leys, and the family lived here for almost four hundred years.
