You're standing at the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, on the eastern edge of Braunschweig's old town. Take a look at the building. With its grand façade in Italian Renaissance style, it feels more like a palace than a museum. Architect Oskar Sommer designed it after a competition, and it opened in 1887. Now turn around. Across the way stands the State Theatre, built in the very same style. And to the north is the park that was laid out alongside the museum.
