You're standing at the remains of Mantinea, a city of ancient Greece, in the plain of Arcadia in the Peloponnese. Take a look around. One thing stands out straight away: the city sits right in the middle of a flat valley. That's unusual, because most ancient Greek city states were not built in a plain. Mountains surround you, and the valley is full of vineyards, potato fields and wheat.
