You're standing at Heddal Stave Church, the largest stave church in Norway. Take a good look: the whole building is made of Scots pine, sitting on a stone foundation. It's held up by load-bearing wooden posts, the staves, which give this kind of church its name. Only twenty-eight of them survive in all of Norway.
