Necropoli dei Monterozzi in Tarquinia

You're standing on the Monterozzi, a long ridge just east of Tarquinia. It might look like ordinary Italian countryside, but beneath your feet lies an entire city of the dead. This is where the Etruscans of ancient Tarquinii buried their dead, for centuries on end. Around six thousand graves were cut into the rock here.
