You're standing at Karatepe, the Black Hill, on a wooded rise in the rugged Taurus Mountains. Below you runs the Ceyhan River. Nearly three thousand years ago a walled fortress stood here, guarding a route between eastern Anatolia and the plains of northern Syria. Today it's part of Karatepe-Aslantaş National Park, and the finds are displayed right out in the open.
