You're standing at Autun Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Lazarus. It sits in the upper town, in the highest and best fortified corner of Autun. Start by looking at the roofs. As so often in Burgundy, they're covered in glazed tiles in different colours. Above them rises the Gothic spire, about eighty metres tall. Bishop Jean Rolin had that tower built in the fifteenth century, after lightning destroyed the original Romanesque one.
