You're standing at Çayönü, one of the key archaeological sites of Upper Mesopotamia. You're at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, near Ergani, about 40 kilometres northwest of Diyarbakır. Nearby flows the Boğazçay, a tributary of the Tigris. People lived here in the Neolithic, before anyone had started making pottery.
