Segontium Roman Fort in Gwynedd

You're standing at Segontium, the Roman fort on the edge of Caernarfon. The road to Beddgelert cuts right through the site, but most of the foundations have survived. Have a look around. The fort sits on higher ground with a view over the Menai Strait. That was no accident. The Romans wanted to keep a firm grip on Anglesey, an island rich in minerals and good farmland.
