You're standing at the Mauritshuis in Willemstad, a listed monument from the seventeenth century. Take a look at those stepped gables. They're classic Dutch Renaissance. Prince Maurits, son of William of Orange, had this house built in 1623, paying for it out of his own pocket. It was his country retreat and hunting lodge, and back then it was called the Prinsenhof. The builder was a master carpenter from The Hague, Willem Arentssen van Salen.
