You're standing on the main square of Pienza, at Palazzo Piccolomini. It's the large palace of pale stone right next to the Duomo. Take a look around. The square is shaped like a trapezoid, with the cathedral in the middle and this palace on the west side. None of that is an accident. The whole thing was planned as one.
