You're standing at Graz Cathedral, the cathedral of the Diocese of Graz–Seckau. It's dedicated to Saint Giles, the patron saint of the city. From the outside it looks fairly modest, with whitewashed walls and a calm outline. But take a closer look. Emperor Frederick III had this Gothic church built between 1438 and 1462 as his court church, right next to his new castle on the hill beside you. There was even a passage linking the church to the castle. It was pulled down in 1853 and 1854.
