Santuario di Santa Maria della Croce in Crema

You're standing at Santa Maria della Croce, a sanctuary well outside the centre of Crema, on the old road to Bergamo. Start with the shape. This isn't a long, ordinary church. It's a round, stacked building in plain brick. The central core rises about thirty-five metres. Around it sit four smaller round sections, each roughly fifteen metres tall. Together they form a Greek cross.
