You're standing on Delos, a small, bare island in the middle of the Cyclades, close to Mykonos. It's only about five kilometres long, yet for the ancient Greeks this was one of the holiest places on earth. According to myth, the goddess Leto gave birth to twins here: Apollo, god of light, and his sister Artemis. Zeus then set a ring of islands around Delos, and the Greek word for that circle still lives on in the name Cyclades.
