You're standing by Tâmpa, the mountain that Brașov wraps itself around almost completely. Look up at that wooded slope. The summit reaches about 960 metres, nearly four hundred metres above the city. It's mostly limestone, part of the Carpathians, and most of it is a nature reserve. Bears live here, plenty of birds, and a remarkable share of all Romania's butterfly species.
