You're standing in Lorch, a district of the Austrian town of Enns. This is where Lauriacum once stood, an important Roman legionary town on the Danube Limes, the empire's northern frontier. Have a look around. You'll see almost nothing of the Roman town today, and there's a reason for that. In the Middle Ages and afterwards, people carted off its stone for their own buildings. Farming, construction and erosion did the rest.
