You're standing at Peyrepertuse Castle, high on a limestone ridge in the Corbières, at around eight hundred metres. Have a look around. Below you there's scrubland, vineyards and the little village of Duilhac. From the village, the fortress seems to balance on top of a cliff thirty to forty metres tall. The name, by the way, means 'pierced stone'.
