Archaeological site Recópolis in Zorita de los Canes

You're standing at Recópolis, on the hill called Cerro de la Oliva, just outside the little village of Zorita de los Canes. What you see is a wide field of ruins. But this was once a royal city. And that makes it rare. Between the fifth and eighth centuries, only two new cities are known to have been founded in all of Western Europe. This is one of them.
