You're standing at Solnitsata, just outside the town of Provadia in eastern Bulgaria. The name means something like the saltworks. And that tells you pretty much everything. This place was all about salt. It's often called the first prehistoric urban centre in Europe, and the oldest salt production centre on the continent.
