You're standing at Pirot Fortress, in southeastern Serbia. Locals simply call it Pirotski Grad. This spot was chosen to guard a road. The Via Militaris ran past here, the old Roman military road linking Belgrade to Constantinople. Whoever held this point could keep an eye on traffic between two worlds.
