You're standing at Anazarbus, known today as Anavarza, an ancient city on the Çukurova plain. First, look at that tall, isolated ridge of rock. That was the acropolis, the city's stronghold. Right on top, in the middle, stands an impressive keep, probably built by the Crusaders. Most of the walls and the massive horseshoe-shaped towers are Armenian, dating from around 1111 onwards.
