You're standing at the Church of St Donatus in Zadar, that striking round stone building. It's the largest Pre-Romanesque building in Croatia, and it dates from the early Middle Ages. Notice how plain it is. No elegant spires, no decorated front, just a massive cylinder twenty-seven metres tall. It used to have a dome on top.
