Cetatea antică Histria

You're standing at Histria, among the ruins of what is often called the oldest city in Romania. Have a look around. Today this spot sits on the shore of Lake Sinoe, a lagoon. But when the city was founded, this was the coast of the Black Sea. Over the centuries the Danube dumped so much silt that the old shoreline was closed off. Part of the city now even lies beneath the murky water of the lake.
