You're standing on the edge of the Vikos Gorge, in northwestern Greece. Go on, look down. At its deepest, the drop here is about a thousand metres. At one spot the gorge is nine hundred metres deep and only eleven hundred metres wide from rim to rim. That's why the Guinness Book of Records calls it the deepest canyon in the world in proportion to its width. Not everyone agrees, but with this view in front of you, it's easy to see where the idea comes from.
