You've reached Fort Boyard, the stone fort out at sea between the Île d'Aix and the Île d'Oléron. Look at its shape. It's like a giant stadium on the water, sixty-eight metres long, thirty-one metres wide, with walls twenty metres high. It sits on a sandbank, which an old map by Blaeu calls Banjaert.
