You're standing at Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps and in Europe outside the Caucasus. The summit sits at about 4,807 metres, measured including the snow on top. That white dome is a permanent ice cap, where the temperature hovers around minus twenty degrees. Fittingly, the name simply means white mountain.
