You're standing at Silvacane Abbey, on the banks of the Durance, just outside La Roque-d'Anthéron. The name sounds poetic, and it is. Silva Cana means forest of reeds. This was once wet, reedy ground, until the monks drained it. Cistercians always looked for remote spots like this, close to a river.
