You're standing on the site of the former Sobibor extermination camp, in a forest in eastern Poland. Take your time here. From the spring of 1942 to the autumn of 1943, the Nazis murdered between 170,000 and 250,000 people, almost all of them Jews. Sobibor was not a labour camp. It had one purpose only: to kill people as quickly as possible. Most of those who arrived by train were dead within hours.
