You're standing at Sandringham House, the British King's country home in Norfolk. Look at the red brick and that busy roofline. Count the chimneys: there are nine separate clusters of them. Critics have never loved it. The architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner called the style "frenetic", and another expert wrote that of all the British monarchy's houses, this is the least distinguished architecturally.
