You're standing at the Goseck Circle, out among the fields near the village of Goseck, somewhere between Naumburg and Weißenfels. Take a look around. There's a round ditch, an earth bank on the outside and two rings of wooden posts. Together they form a circle seventy-five metres across. The posts are new, but the idea is around seven thousand years old. People dug this ditch around 4900 BC, and the place stayed in use for two or three centuries.
