You're standing at Rathcroghan, in Irish Ráth Cruachan, the fort of Cruachan. This was once the royal heart of Connacht, in the west of Ireland. It may look like ordinary farmland, but around you lie more than two hundred and forty archaeological sites, spread over about six square kilometres. Sixty of them are protected national monuments. National Geographic called it possibly Europe's largest unexcavated royal complex.
