You're standing at Laki, in the western part of Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. Strictly speaking, Laki is a mountain. The craters around you are called Lakagígar, the Craters of Laki. Look along the landscape. You'll see a long row of craters, like a seam in the earth. That's exactly what it is: a fissure where the ground once tore open. The mountain Laki sits right in the middle of it.
