You're standing at Schloss Ahrensburg, a white Renaissance castle just northeast of Hamburg. Take a good look at its shape. It seems like one big building, but it's really three rectangular houses set side by side. This kind of doubled or tripled mansion was briefly fashionable in the Renaissance, but it had architectural drawbacks and soon fell out of favour. And those four corner turrets? They weren't in the original plan. They were added while the building was going up.
