Bali-Alona Petrified Forest Park in Municipality of Western Lesvos

You're standing in the Petrified Forest of Lesbos, on the western side of this Greek island. Have a look around. What might seem like ordinary rocks and stumps are actually the remains of an ancient forest that has turned to stone. It's the larger of the world's two most important petrified forests. The other one is in Arizona, in the United States.
