You're standing at Hermitage Castle, in a remote valley of the Hermitage Water, deep in the Scottish borderlands. This place has a reputation as one of the most sinister and atmospheric castles in Scotland. The name probably comes from the Old French word for guardhouse. And that's exactly what it was: the guardhouse of what was once called the bloodiest valley in Britain.
