You're standing at Prasonisi, the southern tip of Rhodes. You're a long way from the crowds here: Rhodes town is about 92 kilometres to the north, Lindos around 40. The nearest Greek village is Katavia. The name Prasonisi means green island, and that's exactly the trick this place plays. Look at that wide strip of sand in front of you. In summer, when the water is low, Prasonisi is tied to Rhodes by this sandbar, which geologists call a tombolo. In winter, when the water rises, the link disappears and Prasonisi becomes a proper island again.
