You're standing at the Brukenthal Palace in Sibiu, a city palace that houses one of the oldest museums in Romania. It was built in the late eighteenth century for Samuel von Brukenthal. He governed Transylvania for the Habsburgs, and he was a passionate collector. Around 1790 he started his first collections right here. Take a look at the façade and picture a baron living inside, slowly filling his home with paintings, books, coins and minerals.
