You're standing in Apollonia, the ruins of an ancient Greek city on a hill near the village of Pojan, not far from Fier in Albania. Take a look across the plain. At its peak, perhaps sixty thousand people lived here. Down below, the Vjosë river ran past a harbour said to hold a hundred ships at once.
