You're standing at Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof, the city's main railway station. After Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, it's the third busiest station in the state of Hesse, with around thirty-five thousand passengers and two hundred and twenty trains a day. Take a look at the façade. This is late Art Nouveau, full of the graceful details that were all the rage in 1912. It's one of the major works of architect Friedrich Pützer.
