You're standing on Ermou Street in Epano Skala, the old Turkish quarter of Mytilene. This area, north of today's city centre and west of the old harbour, was once the Turkish market. Right in the middle of it stands the Yeni Mosque. Yeni means new, and it fits: this was the newest and largest mosque the Ottomans built on Lesbos.
